*David Brainerd (April 20, 1718 – October 9, 1747) was an American missionary to the Native Americans who had a particularly fruitful revival among the Delaware Indians of New Jersey. During his short life he was beset by many difficulties. As a result, his biography has become a source of inspiration and encouragement to many Christians. Missionaries such as William Carey and Jim Elliot, and Brainerd’s cousin, the Second Great Awakening evangelist James Brainerd Taylor (1801–1829) have been motivated by the ministry of David Brainerd.

I am dead to all desire of reputation and greatness, either in life, or after death; all I long for is to be holy, humble, and crucified to the world." -David Brainerd.

“Worldly pleasures, such as flow from greatness, riches, honors, and sensual gratifications, are infinitely worse than none."  -David Brainerd.

Galatians 6:14 (NIV Bible)  “May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”

“Oh that God would humble me deeply in the dust before Him!  I deserve Hell every day for not loving my Lord more, who has, I trust, loved me and given Himself for me.”  -David Brainerd

“Nothing grieves me so much as that I cannot live constantly to God’s glory.”  -David Brainerd

“Oh, the closest walk with God is the sweetest heaven that can be enjoyed on earth!”  -David Brainerd

“Oh, that God would purge away my dross, and take away my sin, and refine me seven times.”  -David Brainerd
「哦,願神除去我生命中的渣滓,除去我的罪,並煉淨我七次。」  - 大衛·布萊納 (David Brainerd) 。
